Why are electricity rates so high? And how will Dr. Alex lower them?

Glendale City Council has created too little supply and too much demand

Too little supply:

  • The new renewable energy technologies they promised aren’t producing the minimum electricity that we need.

  • They limited our power plant electricity production at only 14% capacity when we have the right to operate it at 24%!!

Too much demand:

  • They unnecessarily replaced our clean natural gas buses and hybrid city vehicles with an all-electric fleet that competes with our households for the limited electrity that is produced.

Too many costs:

Let's Fix This TOGETHER

Doctor Alex will lower electricity rates by balancing all of the city’s different needs:

Increase our electricity production by lifting the production cap:

  • We can apply for a production increase to the state-allowable 24% as soon as the power plant is completed in July 2026.

  • We will sell some of this extra electricity for a profit to neighboring cities to buy down rates for Glendale residents.

Resume the use of clean natural gas/hybrid city vehicles and sell off electric vehicles:

  • California does NOT mandate an all-electric fleet, and this unnecessary move by council was an expensive mistake.

  • Less competition by city EV chargers will leave more (and cheaper) electricity for our homes.

Redirect appropriated funds to more meaningful city projects:

  • Bury power lines underground in high-risk areas so that we don’t have deadly fires like Altadena.

  • Create more discounts for older residents on fixed incomes.

Doctor Alex listens to Glendale residents’ concerns while City Council continues to ignore them.
